Preseason Postview

Before the season began, Joe and I made our 2012 NFL predictions. Here's what we predicted for the postseason:

Mike's Picks:
AFC: Houston over Baltimore
NFC: Detroit over Green Bay
Super Bowl: Houston over Detroit

Joe's Picks:
AFC: New England over Denver
NFC: Green Bay over Chicago
Super Bowl: New England over Green Bay

Our AFC picks were on the money. Four AFC teams are still in the hunt and it's the same teams we thought it would be back in August. Joe's Super Bowl prediction still has a chance of coming true.

In other predictions, I had the Browns going 5-11 and Joe pegged them to finish 6-10. I got the bonus point here, with Browns finishing exactly 5-11. We both chose New England to win the division, which they did. Joe correctly picked the Jets finishing with only six wins. Our picks in the AFC North were accurate, as Baltimore and Cincinnati both made the playoffs as we predicted. Joe's 8-8 Pittsburgh prediction was exactly right. We correctly predicted Houston and Denver to win their divisions but we completely disrespected the Horseshoe, as the Colts finished at 11-5, much better than what we had thought.

Joe's worst prediction was having the Chiefs finish 10-6. I thought they'd go 6-10. In reality, Kansas City squeaked out two miserable wins. My worst prediction was with Detroit. I saw a 12 win season in their future but they finished 4-12. Conversely, we figured Minnesota didn't stand a chance with APeterson hurt and Ponder at quarterback, but the Vikings won a wildcard spot at 10-6, far better than the 3 or 4 wins we thought they'd have. Philadelphia was another bust pick for me, going 4-12 instead of the 11-5 I figured. My NFC picks were just really bad, actually.

I thought Calvin Johnson would be the league MVP. He probably won't be but he still set many WR records this year, including yards receiving in a season. Megatron will definitely be getting some votes. Joe went with Tom Brady as MVP. He had another great year but will likely be ignored in the voting.

For Rookie of the Year, we both went with running backs. I selected Tampa's Doug Martin, who in week 9, ran for 251 yards and 4 TDs against the Raiders. Trent Richardson was Joe's pick, and the Browns main man finished with a pedestrian 950 yards rushing on the year.

I thought Arizona would be the worst team of 2012, while Joe added Minnesota and Jacksonville to the list. He was dead wrong on the Vikings, the Cardinals weren't as horrible as we thought and Jaguars only won two games on the year. But the dubious honor went this year to the Kansas City Chefs. Man down.
